Family Group Decision Making Family Group Decision Making (FGDM) is a process which empowers families by placing them in charge of developing their own plan which will guide their future. FGDM is a voluntary process; if the family chooses to end the process, they have the right to do so at any time. A FGDM Coordinator will assist the family in determining which relatives, friends, and service providers to be included in the conference and help the family choose a time and location. The discussions at the conference are based upon ways to develop a plan which meets the specific needs of the family. Topics may include: Child Placement, Transition, School Issues, and Legal Issues. The service providers will leave the family alone to develop a workable plan. Once the family develops a plan, it must be approved by the referral source, if there is one. If the plan is not accepted, it will be sent back for the FGDM participants to make revisions. Connections CONNECTIONS is a four year pilot program designed to prevent truancy at the Oil City High School through direct interventions with the students, their families, and community resources. A CONNECTIONS Coordinator acts as a link between the families and the school. Each year, 10 students from the freshmen class are selected to participate in the CONNECTIONS program. Each participating student receives a stipend upon successful completion of each school year. The stipend is available to them upon graduation to use to further their education in any way they would like. For more information on the Venango County programs, please
